A Contemporary Rural Extension Merging Modern Design with Traditional Character
Hall Farm Court is a sensitive and contemporary residential transformation located in Leicestershire, designed by GPW Architects of Melton Mowbray. The project successfully blends traditional rural character with modern living through the introduction of a striking yet sympathetic rear extension and a carefully reconfigured interior layout.
From the garden, the new contemporary rear extension is expressed in muted grey standing-seam cladding and large-format glazing, providing a clear architectural contrast to the original red brick farmhouse. This modern addition opens the home to the landscape, creating a strong visual and physical connection between the internal living spaces and the garden beyond. Generous sliding doors enhance natural light and support fluid indoor-outdoor living.
Internally, the project features a bright open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, centred around the newly formed extension. Exposed brick walls celebrate the building’s agricultural heritage, while black-framed glazed screens and doors introduce a refined industrial character. These glazed partitions allow daylight to filter deep into the plan while maintaining visual separation between spaces whilst linking old and new through material continuity.
The design at Hall Farm Court demonstrates GPW Architects’ expertise in residential extensions, rural renovations and contemporary architectural detailing, delivering a home that is both practical for modern family life and respectful of its historic context. The result is a thoughtfully crafted dwelling that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern architectural design in the heart of rural Leicestershire.
